I had an interesting conversation today... you know the type which compels you to delve deeper into your own ideas. One of those conversations which gently pushes the boundaries of that which you hold true.

I'm left considering surrender. And as I feel those thoughts drifting, as the ideas float from my mind to someone else's; as ideas do in their freedom. I find myself contemplating once again the forces within which I am compelled by. The ideas which breath life into art. The centering thoughts. The focus.

And what is the focus I contemplate. That central theme... that connects all the random dots in my head into a recognizable pattern? And I realize it is the idea of surrender.

Not just the simple act of surrender, but I mean all facets of it: Surrendering to ones passions, to life itself. Surrender to truth, to your truths, your beliefs. Its the giving up of the struggle to... just... be. The simplicity which is supersedes all our complexities. The uncomplicated surface which gives way to depth and layers which we can explore. Within the layers we can find our contrast and contradictions... All of them exist together and make the whole.

Ultimately in our final moment we surrender life, its very self. We surrender all of our ideas and our experiences... our physical being, the vessels of our lives, now in its purest forms just simply is.

So what compels me then? Its that surrender which I look for. What brings it to the surface? Is it rope, restraints? Is it an aspect of life itself, or just an idea? What compels us? What drives us? All of these things we can capture within our surrender. In the end, we are all driven by death.... we strive to better ourselves and grow our experiences, to reach our potential before we are able to reach no longer. The real motivation (and in some cases the deliberate lack of it) is perched squarely on the fact of that uncertainty.

I look again with my fresh perspective and I feel like I'm so far from achieving my purity of image. I look again and I see it faintly in the distance....
